FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What size bale do you make? All of our forage here at stock hay is packaged in a 3X4X8 large square bale to maximize the amount of tons shipped on a single truck. By using this size bale, we are able to utilize the maximum height, width, and weight that trucks can legally haul. We feel this is important to our customers since after all it costs the same to ship a 22-ton load as a 24-ton load. Another nice feature of this size bale is that they make for easy stacking (they will not tip over very easily) and there is fewer bales to handle compared to a mid-sized square. What do your bales weigh? Weight varies by cutting, product, and moisture content, but here are a few averages: Alfalfa: 1300 – 1600 pounds/bale Brome and low potassium grasses: 1200-1400 pounds/bale Wheat Straw: 700-900 pounds/bale Is your hay stacked outside? No, here at Stock Hay Company we believe that quality feed should be stored inside. The advantage of this is there are no bottom bales, no weathering on the ends of each bale, and no rain damage from leaky tarps. However, when we get in a bind for barn storage we will occasionally stack lower quality forage outside on pallets with tarps. Who pays the freight? All loads purchased from Stock Hay Company will be shipped FOB origin, freight collect. This means: * Ownership of the product passes to buyer when goods leave shippers dock * Buyer pays freight charges when hay is received, freight will be billed on invoice and paid to Stock Hay Company *Buyer owns goods in transit * Buyer files claims, if any damage during shipping. How is money collected? Most loads are payable on delivery or C.O.D. with a certified check. An invoice will be sent with the truck driver and the driver is responsible for collecting payment before the truck is unloaded. How do I know you will send me the hay I ordered? Stock Hay Company prides it’s self on representing products for what they are. We will do our best to describe the load over the phone as accurately as possible. Our customers will tell you they are well pleased with their hay when it arrives. We will also be glad to send you digital pictures of the hay if you would like. |
