Fields are monitored closely to determine optimum cutting time. Generally, fields are cut on a 28-day interval for maximum nutritional content. Hay should be cut during the bud stage of growth for maximum protein and relative feed value. When the field is ready for harvest the hay is then cut and conditioned with a self-propelled swather. Conditioning may be the most important part of the hay making process. This is why we have invested in a super conditioner that allows for a continuous crimp of the alfalfa stem. This allows the hay to dry faster and makes the stems softer. |
